The closest seems to be the Grand Floridian, but it’s very expensive.
You’ll have to shop around for something cost effective but there are many, so anything within a short driving distance of the disney rail terminal is fine.
If you want to eat in the nicer eateries in Disneyland, book the day ahead or fist thing in the morning. The walk in, fast food places are nasty. The sit down, nice themed restaurants are booked up.
Getting out of bed early helps a great deal with parking and access, so it can make a cheaper hotel (I.E. further away) more effective than it otherwise might be. Pay to stay in the Grand Floridian and you can lay in bed longer
Sorry, I can’t give you numbers because I’m out of date.
I haven’t been there for a while,

Costs a lot. We went last month. Probably almost $1,000 I’d say. We stayed at the Fort Wilderness Resort. It was actually rather nice…

i highly reccomend that you bring your own breakfast foods for the time you are there. this saves you so much time, money and effort, because the breakfasts are so expensive and it takes and hour to get your food and it is so crowded. why deal with that? but buy lunch and dinner at the parks, and try to spend under a certain amount of money to save your money. my family of 4 had a limit of spending less than $25 and we always did. so try to spend less than that. like maybe $15 or something. that will save you alot of maybe. you can stay at a value resort and spend about $80 a night, but they are so bad, and i wouldn’t stay there if someone paid me. staying at a moderate priced resort is spending about $120 a night, and there is a huge difference depending on where you stay…i so highly reccomend the port orleans french quarter (not the riverside-too crowded). it was like the deluxe resorts that we usually stay at, and i loved it. we are even staying there the next time we go, which is real soon. for deluxe resorts, get ready to spend $250-$400 a night, and that is probably out of your budget, but the monorail is great. have fun!

Watch the Disney website for specials, when you see one call to book. Also call and ask about specials now and then. there are less expensive places to stay at WDW than Grand Floridian and wilderness, try the all stars/pop century or if you want something a little nicer Caribbean beach resorts. While staying at Disney look into the Disney dining plan to save on food, 2 meals a day and snack each. Now you can book your room at Disney and you dont have to pay for park tickets, you can choose the number of days you want to go to the parks and I would say Disney is comparable to everyone else around the major attractions.
I would consider booking your entire stay at a Disney resort, use Disney’s Magical express to get from the airport to the resort and back again, this will save cost of ground transportation to/from the airport. While at WDW you will not need a rental car, you can use the Disney transportaion system on the property, this can save you many days of rental car costs, when you are ready for Universal rent the car only for the day/s you need it, the same with Busch Gardens, you can rent a car on property. This just means you will have to drive to from the other theme parks. If you do Disney dining you have one sitdown and one counter service meal per night of your stay, so on the days you go off property do a breakfast and a dinner at the resorts without entering a park, then just a snack at the other parks. Also, i would look at March, April there are spring breaks going on and more crowded, but watch the Disney website for operational updates to see what migth be closed for refurbishment.

Since you plan on staying in a Disney-operated hotel while at Disney World, one bit of advice is to participate in the Disney Dining Plan for $39/day/person (2007 price). It gets you one sit-down meal, one counter-service meal, and one snack (under $4) each day. The Dining Plan includes taxes and tips. You can contact Disney World for all of the Dining Plan eligibility rules.
People overwhelmingly favor the Dining Plan, because you usually eat better (and more) food than the actual cost of the Dining Plan. With this plan, you get a set number of meal and snack credits at the beginning of the vacation package to spend as you see fit. Many people have snack credits left over at the end of their vacation.

I wouldn’t rent a car if you are going to stay on property at Disney. The transportation system there is wonderful. For going to Universal Studios here’s a little tip. Take a Disney bus from your resort to Downtown Disney. Walk over to the Hilton Hotel and they have buses going to Universal. They assume you are staying at the hotel. We just stayed at Coronado Springs. It is a moderate resort. We liked it except that there is quite a bit of walking from your room to the bus station and everything else, but that is pretty typical at most of the resorts. Definitely recommend the Dining Plan. We used our counter service for lunch one day at the Market Place at our resort and had ribeye steaks, priced at $19 on the menu! Wouldn’t bother using the dining for breakfast though. You don’t get your money’s worth.

I would go for the meal plans at both Disney and Universal, Disney gives you only a certain amount you can have a day, but it is a lot, on the other hand you can eat all you want at Universal plus you can get a drink cup that you can have refilled as much as possible for free, it really is a great deal if you buy the meal plans online you save more than buying them at the park
